spaces

In direct response to data gathered, our membership founded Forever Safe Spaces (FSS) in 2020 as a force of self-preservation, holistic healing, & cultural resilience to interweave, stabilize, & nurture the people most vital to our ecosystem so we can not only survive, but thrive in place. From the ethos of mutual aid, FSS advocates for & invests in undervalued creative spaces & cultural workers as a solution to social disparity & displacement.

As a community-led formation, our membership core including our leadership, resident artist/volunteer/collaborator ecosystem, is central to all we do and an active part of informing and curating our programming. Because low-barrier participation and accessibility remain central to our values and because our free public programming is extensive and multifaceted, our audience and public benefit impact is very organic and broad, extending throughout the county and beyond.

Via FSS, our three studio spaces on Capitol Hill, Seattle support over 60 BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and neurodivergent resident artists plus a broader ecosystem of roughly 200 local creatives working in photography, videography, fashion, music, storytelling, literature, painting, ceramics and social practice art. Through CommuniTeas drop-in programming, our resident artists directly serve an estimated 200 additional community members a month. Participants in CommuniTeas learn about our programs from word of mouth, social media, and public events such as On The Block, so their demographics largely reflect that of our BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and neurodivergent leadership and resident artist core.
